Door-to-door Scams |
||
|
Police are advising residents to remain vigilant following an increase in reports of rogue traders operating door-to-door.
These individuals are targeting members of the public, particularly elderly or vulnerable residents, offering to carry out home improvement work at short notice for a fee. One recent method involves claims that a bird’s nest has formed beneath roof tiles, with assurances that this will lead to water damage if not urgently addressed.
In these cases, the individuals may access the roof and appear to carry out work, including showing materials such as grass or debris to support their claim. They may then spend time on the property before requesting significant payment, sometimes exceeding £6,000. However, in many reported incidents, it has been identified that no genuine repair work has been undertaken, and the circumstances are believed to be part of a scam designed for monetary gain.
Residents are encouraged to be cautious of unsolicited callers offering services, and to seek advice from trusted professionals before agreeing to any work. If you have concerns or have been approached in this way, please report it to police. | ||
